It's A Blog Give Away

Note: Winners announced in this post:
One of the things I love about the digital scrapbooking world, is how generous many of the designers are - especially when times of crisis take place.

Songbird Avenue is no exception. The creation of Jan Crowley (the Queen of Quirk) and Meredith Fenwick, this site offers specially designed, limited addition kits each month for a specific charity.

This month is especially important, because the kit "Port au Prince" - will benefit Doctors Without Borders, an organization at work now, helping individuals impacted by the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti.

The kit features the artwork of more than 60 designers including past sponsors, The Queen of Quirk, Meredith Fenwick, Janet Philips and Amy Wolff.

"Every kit that we work on at Songbird Avenue is special, and this kit is no exception," the statement on the Songbird Avenue Website reads. "We are thrilled to present 'Port au Prince,' a digital scrapbooking kit for the benefit of relief in Haiti. All proceeds from February will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.

"As a community of caring and giving people, we at Songbird Avenue hope that we can help make a difference together. We appreciate your help supporting these charities and are so proud to be a part of this amazing community. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts."

According to Songbird Avenue's blog, as of Feb. 15, the kit has raised $5,803.85 in USD.

Note: As a freelance journalist, I am often provided with copies of things to review or give away. In this case, I was provided NOTHING. I purchased the kit (and the give away gift certificate) on my own - my Paypal Account went "cha-ching." This post was not influenced by any outside sources - just in case you (or the FTC) were worried about this detail.

This week I organized a surprise party for someone who really needs and deserves a surprise.

  5. This week I gave an inspirational mini poster I made to a co-worker who is having way too much change in her life, hoping it would help her through difficult times, turns out this was on the day she would have to put her pet of many years down due to ongoing health issues that would not rally. Thanks for the chance to win

oh grrr wordpress is not working- I'm LaurieW @oscraps

  6. Thanks everyone, for your initial comments. I love what you've been doing to help others....great ideas!

  7. I already purchased this kit to help this cause, so thanks for the opportunity to win this giftcard to use on future kits!

Don't know if mine count, but lately I've been helping dig people out of the snow when I can. And when we can't drive I've been bundling up and walking to my grandma's to make sure she has company when she can't get out on the roads.

Also about 1.5 years ago one of my friends passed away and her charity scholarship event is this weekend in my hometown, so if I can I'll be attending that dance.

  8. Oh I would love the opportunity to win this kit. I've wanted to help in some way but my DH was recently forced into retirement and money is too tight...'s for such an amazing cause.

To do what we can to help, a group of us have been making "care cloths" to send. We gather toiletries that have been donated, sew washcloths to form a baggie and fill them with the toiletry items. We donate them to the Red Cross. It's just something small but it's amazing how much these types of things are needed by groups like the Red Cross.

    Thank you for the opportunity!

  9. Wonderfull Chance!!

I went with my youngest daughter, Fenna (1 year and 4mnth), to visit my grandmother who suffers from alzheimers. We went to the restaurant in that building. It's a 5 minutes walk, and within that 5 minutes she asked me 4 times who was the little girl. She said the little one made her happy seeing her walking.
In the restaurant where many more ppl with their family. Fenna kept walking everywhere. Said: "Hallo" to everybody she passed on her way.

So actually Fenna made a lot of ppl happy.
And I made my grandmother happy with visiting her :)

  10. thanks for this chance, I went visiting my uncle yesterday. He is in a lung clinic. He doesn't recieve any visits during the week because of the long distance from his home. It's hard for him because he is missing his family, so we went yesterday, and spend a few hours there, it made him happy and smile again!

  11. Thanks for this chance.
Today I went shopping for my neighbor who is old.

  12. This week I: donated (again) to Haiti relief, went to the hospital to help my neice with her preemie, did a project as a fundraiser for a wrestling scholarship, and did some work on a fundraiser for a suicide prevention group. Whew!

  13. Giving is a spirit that i teach in my yoga classes alot. I asked my class to join me in the 29 day gift giving challenge. where you give something to someone for every days for 29days. It was an amazing and beautiful experience. If you ever have a chance check out 29 Gifts by Cami Walker. or its absouletly amazing! Kris Myers, krismyersdesigns at msn dot com. Thank you so much for sharing the spirit of giving.
