It's official

The news.....

I can finally post, that I accepted a new job as of this weekend, to do children's and communications ministry stuff at First United Methodist Church in Siloam Springs, Ark.

After seven years of hanging out, and working for newspapers, I am going back to work for a church. Wow. I'll help the parents/volunteers build a children's ministry program, and I'll also work to improve/upgrade the church's communication's looks great, but I've learned so much from about web communication, I think we can do some great things...with slide shows, podcasts, blogs and more.

Things have fallen into place. It's been quite unexpected. A month ago, Denni Palmer twisted my arm and had me send my resume in for a job posting with the church. I did it a) because have you ever met Denni and b) because I've been seeking out where I am supposed to be in life for several months. (It all began when closed).

I'd considered other jobs, but nothing really "panned" out. So I really didn't expect anything to happen here. I just sent my resume, because well, Denni can be really (Must be because we test the same on the Myers Briggs personality test).

Sometimes when God moves, he moves very quickly. (This after YEARS of waiting)...

I finally decided to step out and consider ministry positions again, for a variety of reasons - mainly because I had a peace in my "soul" about stepping out into this direction again.

Anyway, I sent the resume, and a whirlwind month later, I accepted the position.

In the last month, I've had several phone conversations with the sr pastor, one conference call phone interview, and one marathon Sunday interview/meeting with the pastor and some of the key parents....

....which led to a week of silence (which is not always golden)...until after Labor Day, when....the pastor called and told me they went a different direction for the youth ministry job...and hired someone else ....but (he said quickly).....

...the SPR (committee in charge of hiring people) was impressed by my resume and stuff, that they wanted to go ahead and step out in faith and combine the communication job (pt time) and the children's ministry job (was an intern) and make it a full-time's a growing ministry, in both parts.

On Tuesday evening, I panicked. The salary was good, but no health insurance....and they wanted me as soon as possible....and in reality, I panicked because, it was the "oh my I really want to work for a church again...this is really happening..."

I had to chose...did I want comfort/easy job...but no challenge...just a sit on my booty job.....or did I want to "step out in faith" and take a job that would be challenging, creative and let me work with children/families again??

By Thursday, I had an apartment (verbally committed to, thanks to Carl Palmer's mother - she lives in Siloam and made it her quest to find me a safe, cheep, yet cute apartment lol...) and accepted the job. (Yes, I accepted the job BEFORE I called the landlord...but let's just say, Mary's search led me to "speed" up my decision...)

By Friday, I found out how I can transfer my insurance from GateHouse to an individual plan, without losing my "pre-existing" coverage.... "fingers crossed" it will keep working.

I have several projects I have to wrap up at work, in the next two weeks - including several Bridal tab stories and the Gladstone Chamber of Commerce book.

I have a meeting in Ark., Thursday evening/Friday morning (and I'll sign the lease on the apartment) Saturday for GateHouse (covering a bridal trade show and fashion show.....I'd rather take pics at a football game ...- that was last week), then have everything packed by the we can load the truck/trailer - good old farm stock-trailer moving company strikes again.

Initially, I thought the folks would bring my stuff on Sept. 23, but Dad's having to work 12 hr shifts at work, so he told me I'd have my stuff by maybe Sept. 30...
So, I'll have a week between jobs, so I can settle in a bit in Ark., and clean my apartment in Carthage, before I "officially" start on Oct. 1.

Insane, amazing, and totally God.
Everything has fallen into place. I never expected to return to ministry. Did I mention the pastor Randy Rowland is an Asbury grad??? (We went to the same Seminary) and he has a tremendous passion for youth/children's ministry....

This is going to be an amazing, crazy, ride.
I was describing the job to an on-line friend, and she said "it sounds like a dream job" (because it combines communication and children's ministry)....Ya know, after the editor's job with Group Publishing didn't quite work out, I quit dreaming....but I think she's right. This is kind of one of those, I can't believe it's happening a million years, I never would have expected something like this to happen.

So, here's the next chapter ....
Keep watching my blog for updates. I'll try to take some pics of the apartment on Friday, when I go to Siloam.

So we'll see what happens. I have a feeling it's going to be a crazy, but amazing ride.
